An Assignment to Produce a Jingle in Korean
This was a fun one—a jingle for BLK Cosmetics, the makeup brand of Philippine actress and TV host Anne Curtis. My peg was “Holiday” by Girls’ Generation. Pretty close to the original in some parts.
I worked with a Korean language coach and lyricist, Fiona [TBD], and a Filipina singer. We rehearsed syllable by syllable to get the accent right.
We couldn’t get the bright squeaky quality of K-Pop vocals at first. Later, we had to record the singer 2 semitones lower, then pitched it back up to the proper key. And voilà! Cutie-cutie vocals galore.
